If you're coming from Hood River it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The beautiful scenery of Klickitat County and the cool fresh water beats anything. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. This is a pretty decent length section, suitable for an afternoon trip. The wild scenery of the Central Cascade Range is great. The Buck Creek to Columbia River section is one of many paddling sections in this river system.
There are some good hotels near the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. The rivers for whitewater rafting and
kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp.
Briefly about the general area: All through the warmest time of the year highs here at White Salmon River reach the 80's with night lows in the 40's. All through the winter the highs are ordinarily in the 30's, and winter nights come with lows in the 20's to White Salmon River. White Salmon River is a wet site that gets a lot of precipitation; most
of the snow falls throughout December, and July is when it's the driest. And that's not everything you can do here in the Central Cascade Range. If you crave a little side spree, try Hood River Valley, and while here here do stop at close by Koberg Beach.
