The scenic beauty of Skamania County and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Washington are often tougher than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. The Northern Cascade Range
scenery is wonderful. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, you can easily run it on an afternoon. The campgrounds here at Wind River
are pretty good. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. The Mineral Springs to Stabler section of Wind River in Skamania County is 7.2 miles long and has been rated as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Hood River, as you can see on the road map further down.

arrives with high temperatures in the 70's with night lows in the 50's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 40's, and night lows in the 30's for Wind River. Don't leave Wind River without first going for a hike along the Soda Peaks Trail, and magnificent hiking is available
along the Paradise Trail. Wind River gets much water; December is when you get the most rain here while July is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
