Washington whitewater - Wind River, Northern Cascade Range, Skamania County
Skamania
county,
Ranger Station Close to Stabler to High Bridge section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS IV-V 6 miles
Hello,
Anybody who puts-in where the road map link on the webpage indicates and expects to find class IV-V water is going to be disappointed. The put-in is on the right bank slightly downstream of where the map shows the take-out (basically, at Stabler) and the take-out is on the right bank a half-mile or so above High Bridge (where the red line crosses the river on the map).

Hello,
I run this section of the Wind regularly and I have never heard anybody refer to it as Ranger Station Close
to Stabler to High Bridge. It's common names are Stabler to High Bridge and the Upper Wind. The putin is much closer to Stabler than to the Ranger Station near Stabler (which is actually closer to the put-in on Trout Creek).

The
nature scenery of Skamania County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream have people coming here. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Washington is often more difficult than elsewhere, so keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. The Ranger Station Close to Stabler to High Bridge section of Wind River is 6 miles long and is a class IV-V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling places. Great exercise and
spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near. On this section you do get some distance, suitable for an afternoon trip. The put-in is not too far from Hood River, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. There aren’t any hotels
right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. Whitewater paddling here in the Northern Cascade
Range is a great experience. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground.
Briefly about the general area: Hiking is a popular thing to do around Wind River; Soda Peaks Trail is a delightful local trail, and why not take a refreshing hike along the Paradise
Trail. For the period of the days of summer at Wind River highs are usually in the 70's, and the overnight is fairly cooler of course, commonly in the 50's. Through the wintertime the highs are ordinarily in the 40's while Wind River nighttime low temperatures through the winter
are in the 30's. If you adore the outdoors you'll adore it here in the Northern Cascade Range. Wind River is a quite wet place regularly with much precipitation; the month with most of the rain is December, and the driest month is July.
