The beautiful scenery of Washington and the cool fresh water beats anything. This section of Wind River in Washington is 5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class IV-V(V+) section. The put-in location is a short drive from Hood River, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the High Bridge to Columbia River section is just one of many. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in
advance you're all set. This stretch is mid length, you can easily run it on an afternoon. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. Whitewater
rafting and kayaking in Washington is often tougher than elsewhere, so keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less manageable. There's camping available near Wind River. The beauty of the Northern Cascade Range is a great plus for this river.
Briefly about the general area: All the water falling down from the sky makes Wind River a wet place; the month with most of the rain is December, and the driest month is July. Go for a hike on the Huckleberry Trail; don't leave Wind River without first going for a hike along the Cedar Creek Trail.
The warmest time of the year at Wind River arrives with high temperatures in the 70's. When the night sets in temperatures sink down into the 50's.
