Skamania
county,
High Bridge to Columbia River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS IV-V(V+) 5 miles
The wonderful Washington scenery and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The average Washington whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. This section of Wind River in Skamania County is 5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class IV-V(V+) section. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling rivers. This section is
long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's perfect for a one day trip. Lodging is available near the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river
for a while will have you coming back for more. The beautiful Northern Cascade Range scenery is an added bonus. The starting location is a short drive from Hood River, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. This is not the only paddling stretch in this river system, there are others too.
