Washington whitewater - Yakima River, Northern Cascade Range, Benton/Yakima County
Benton/Yakima
county,
Confluence with Teanaway River to Thorp section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS II 15.1 miles
The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so better not forget that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. The beautiful scenery of Washington and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so why not pack your camp stove too. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Whether you're whitewater
rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of spots for that. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The starting point is not too far from Ellensburg, as you can see on the road map further
down. This section of Yakima River is 15.1 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II section of whitewater. The river winds through the Northern Cascade Range and you get great scenery. Yakima River doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Confluence with Teanaway River to Thorp section is the only one.
