If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so better not forget that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. The nature scenery of Washington and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream attract people from near and far. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. If you're coming from Ellensburg it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location,
there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. This section of Yakima River is 15.1 miles long and is a class II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. You might be into whitewater
rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good spots for that around here. You can enjoy this stretch more if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. This is the only paddling section along Yakima River. The river winds through the Northern Cascade Range and you get great scenery.
Briefly about the general area: You just can't picture the amount of outdoors enjoyable stuff the Northern Cascade
Range has to offer. It is very arid here at Yakima River usually; the wettest month of the year is typically December, that's the one that snows the most, and the driest of the months is July. You might want to pay a visit to Horse Canyon while you're here at Yakima River;
you'll almost certainly meet some people from Ellensburg here. Throughout the warmest time of the year at Yakima River temperatures are regularly in the 80's. Once the sun is down it falls down to the 50's. For the duration of the wintertime this place gets highs in the 30's, and through the dark hours in the wintertime at Yakima River temperatures fall to the 20's.
