Washington whitewater - Yakima River, Northern Cascade Range, Benton/Yakima County

Benton/Yakima county, Confluence with Teanaway River to Thorp section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II     15.1 miles
If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so better not forget that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. The nature scenery of Washington and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream attract people from near and far. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. If you're coming from Ellensburg it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location,
there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. This section of Yakima River is 15.1 miles long and is a class II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. You might be into whitewater
rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good spots for that around here. You can enjoy this stretch more if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. This is the only paddling section along Yakima River. The river winds through the Northern Cascade Range and you get great scenery.
