This section of Armstrong Creek in Fayette County is 4.1 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III section. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in West Virginia are often more forgiving than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. If you're coming from Oak Hill it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further down. The scenic beauty of West Virginia and the cool fresh water attract people
from near and far. This is a pretty decent length section, good for a one day paddling trip. The Powellton to Kimberly stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem
but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby.
Briefly about the general area: Throughout the months of summer here at Armstrong Creek, high temperatures mostly get into the 80's, and through summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 40's while the cold winter nights at Armstrong
Creek are in the 20's. Stop Hollow is a good spot to go to close by. Much rain falls at Armstrong Creek; the month with most of the rain is July, and October is when it's the driest.
