West Virginia whitewater - Big Clear Creek, Greenbrier County Greenbrier county, CR 1 bridge to Anjean section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS III-V     4.5 miles   The CR 1 bridge to Anjean stretch of Big Clear Creek in Greenbrier County is 4.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-V section. The natural beauty of Greenbrier County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the CR 1 bridge to Anjean section is one of them. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either     way this area has a large number of paddling places. On this section you do get some distance, you can easily run it on an afternoon. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Briefly about the general area: Big Clear Creek is a quite wet place regularly with a large amount of rain; all through July this area sees the most rain, and February on the other hand is the driest. For the period of the warmest time of the year here at Big Clear Creek, high temperatures usually reach the 80's with nighttime lows in the 50's.
