The wonderful West Virginia scenery and the cool fresh water have people coming here. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in West Virginia are easier than the national norm, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. The campgrounds here at Big Coal River - Clear Fork are pretty good. The put-in is not too far from Beckley, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good places for that around here. |

A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more. This stretch of Big Coal River - Clear Fork in Raleigh County is 7.1 miles long and is a class I-II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. This is a pretty
| decent length section, it's good length for a morning trip. The Ameagle to Whitesville stretch is one of many paddling stretches in this river system. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.
