The wonderful Webster/Nicholas County scenery and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. On this section you do get some distance, it's good length for a morning trip. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. Not too many     hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The campgrounds here at Birch River are pretty good. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside West Virginia you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. Briefly about the general area: Summer brings highs in the 80's to Birch River. When the night sets in temperatures plunge down into the 60's. The winter brings highs down to the 30's; after the sun is down throughout the wintertime temperatures at Birch River dip into the 10's.
