West Virginia whitewater - Birch River, Webster/Nicholas County Webster/Nicholas county, Boggs to Birch River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II+(IV)     8.8 miles   There is no white water worth paddling down.  The strip mines are destroying this river and the surrounding area.  The fish are dissapearing and there is very little water in Birch River, even after a huge rain.  I would much rather have the white water and possibility of floods than the destruction of these beautiful rivers and mountains by the strip mines. Says Wally S. The Boggs to Birch River section of Birch River in Webster/Nicholas County is 8.8 miles long and it is classified as a class II+(IV) section by American Whitewater. The nature     scenery of West Virginia and the playfulness of the water have people coming here. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good places for that around here. The Boggs to Birch River stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. The campgrounds here at Birch River are pretty good. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle,   it's good length for a morning trip. Briefly about the general area: At Birch River all through the warm months highs are in the 80's. For the duration of the moonlight hours it's generally in the 60's. The winter brings highs down to the 30's, and winter nights come with lows in the 10's to Birch River. Birch River is a wet site that gets a large amount of precipitation; July is the wettest month with most rain, and the driest month of the year is February.
