If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so better not forget that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. This section of Birch River in West Virginia is 10.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-III section. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of spots for that. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Briefly about the general area: During the warm days of summer, highs commonly are in the 80's at Birch River while nighttime lows are ordinarily in the 60's. All through the winter the highs are generally in the 30's, and after the sun is down during the winter temperatures at Birch River sink into the 10's.
