This section of Blackwater River is 7 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-V section. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in West Virginia are often more forgiving than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that lots of rivers here are good for beginners.
The scenic beauty of Tucker County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water beats anything. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number
of paddling spots. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people.
Briefly about the general area: Why not take a refreshing hike along the Canyon Rim Trail, and the summits of the Backbone Mountain add much beauty to the neighborhood. Blackwater River gets a large amount of water; throughout the month of July you get the most rain around here, and the driest month is February. Hiking is a popular thing to do around Blackwater River; Limerock Trail is a nice local trail. All through the
months of summer at Blackwater River highs are generally in the 80's, and through the night it cools down to the 50's. During the winter highs are in the 30's while Blackwater River night low temperatures all through the winter are in the 10's.
