West Virginia whitewater - Blackwater River, Tucker County Tucker county, Wildlife Preserve to Davis section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS I-II(III)     11 miles   The Wildlife Preserve to Davis stretch of Blackwater River in Tucker County is 11 miles long and has been rated as a class I-II(III) section by American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in West Virginia is often easier than elsewhere, so keep in mind that rivers here are less demanding. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good spots. There are nice comfortable hotels here, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This river system is full     of great paddling sections, the Wildlife Preserve to Davis section is just one of them. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The nature scenery of Tucker County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream will make you feel great. You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so pack your camp stove. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. Briefly about the general area: Devils Run Spring is always fun to check out, and do take a hike on the Lindy Run Trail. Blackwater River is a rather wet place mostly with a good deal of rainfall; July is when you get the most rain here, and October is when it's the driest. Summer brings highs in the 80's to Blackwater River; the nighttime is a tad colder of course,   typically in the 50's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 30's while the cold winter nights at Blackwater River are in the 10's.
