This section of Buckhannon River in Upshur County is 9.4 miles long and has been rated as a class I-III section by American Whitewater. On this section you do get some distance, it's good length for a morning trip. The wonderful West Virginia scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Buckhannon River have people coming here. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations     in advance you're all set. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in West Virginia are often easier than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. Briefly about the general area: A lot of rain falls at Buckhannon River; most of the rain falls during July, and the driest month is October. Through the summertime at Buckhannon River temperatures are commonly in the 80's, and through the night it cools down to the 50's.
