The scenic beauty of West Virginia and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The average West Virginia whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master than those in other states, so keep in mind that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. The starting point is not too far from Beckley, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near. Some people prefer whitewater
rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling rivers. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. For all you camping people
there are campgrounds nearby. On this section you do get some distance, suitable for an afternoon trip. The Camp Creek State Forest to Bluestone River section is the only paddling section along Camp Creek. This section of Camp Creek is 4.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-III section.
Briefly about the general area: For the duration of the summer here at Camp Creek, high temperatures typically reach the 70's. For the period of the dark hours of summer temperatures fall down into the 50's. For the period
of the winter highs are in the 30's; night lows in the 10's for Camp Creek. A common amount of precipitation falls here at Camp Creek; July is when you get the most rain here; the driest month of the year is February. Head up to Winterplace and strap some skis to your feet.
