The scenic beauty of Preston/Monongalia County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good spots for that around here. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your camping stuff. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before     you come because it is a very popular destination. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so you'd better keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. The starting location is a short drive from Morgantown, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Jenkinsburg Bridge to Cheat Lake section is one of them. Briefly about the general area: Through the warm months at Cheat River temperatures are ordinarily in the 80's. Throughout the   moonlight hours it's frequently in the 60's. The winter comes with highs in the 30's with winter lows in the 10's overnight here at Cheat River. Coopers Rock State Forest is a great forest region in the vicinity of Cheat River, and since you're here, do take a tour to Beaverhole. Cheat River is a good place of common rainfall; of all the months in a year July is the one with the most rain, and the driest month of the year is February.
