Whitewater rafting and kayaking in West Virginia is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. The scenic beauty of Nicholas County and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The Watergate Inn to Gauley River stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. This is a pretty decent length section, it's     good length for a morning trip. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Briefly about the general area: Going for a hike on the Perry Ridge Trail is always a brilliant adventure, and there are great spots to look at along the Harris Siding Trail. During the warm days of summer at Cherry River highs are mostly in the 80's. Once the sun is down it sinks down to the 60's. Highs during the winter are typically in the 40's while the cold winter nights at Cherry River are in the   20's. Lots of rainfall falls at Cherry River; of all the months in a year July is the one with the most rain, and January on the other hand is the driest.
