If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The Watergate Inn to Gauley     River section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. This stretch of Cherry River in Nicholas County is 9 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III section. This stretch has has enough mileage, suitable for an afternoon trip. Briefly about the general area: Cherry River is a reasonably wet place regularly with a large amount of rain; July is the month that gets the most rain while January is the month with the least amount of precipitation. While you're here at Cherry River you can take a hike along the Perry Ridge Trail, and if the weather is wonderful, you can go for a hike along the Harris Siding Trail. At Cherry River during the months of summer highs are in the 80's, and all through summer nights temperatures are in   the 60's. For the period of the winter highs are in the 40's, and overnight lows at Cherry River during the winter commonly fall into the 20's.
