The beautiful scenery of Pocahontas/Webster County and the water flowing gracefully down Cranberry River have people coming here. This section of Cranberry River in West Virginia is 15 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-V section. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in West Virginia tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short
distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. Some people
prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Above Cranberry Rec Area to Cranberry Rec Area section is one of them.
Briefly about the general area: Cranberry River frequently gets much rain; of all the months in a year July is the one with the most rain; February meanwhile is the driest month. There are pleasant sites to explore along the Birchlog Trail, and you can go for a hike on the Pocahontas Trail. All
through the days of summer at Cranberry River temperatures are generally in the 80's. For the period of the moonlight hours it's usually in the 50's. For the duration of the wintertime this place gets highs in the 40's with temperatures at Cranberry River dipping down into the 10's through winter nights.
