The natural beauty of West Virginia and the water flowing gracefully down Cranberry River have people coming here. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in West Virginia is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. This stretch is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so pack your sleeping bag. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Cranberry Rec Area to Cranberry Rec Area section of Cranberry River is 15 miles long and is a class II-V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations
in advance you're all set. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Above Cranberry Rec Area to Cranberry Rec Area stretch is one of them. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come.
Briefly about the general area: All through the summertime months at Cranberry River highs are generally in the 80's. Once the sun is down it plunges down to the 50's. For the duration of the wintertime this place gets highs in the 40's; overnight lows in the 10's for Cranberry River.
Good hiking is available along the Birchlog Trail, and there's wonderful hiking along the Pocahontas Trail. Cranberry River sees pretty high levels of rain; July is the month that gets the most rain, and the driest month of the year is February.
