If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so better not forget that rivers here are less demanding. The scenic beauty of West Virginia and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream will make you feel great. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people
coming from far and near. The Cranberry Recreation Area to Big Rock stretch of Cranberry River is 6 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-IV section. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. On this section you do
get some distance, you can easily run it on an afternoon. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp.
Briefly about the general area: Cranberry River is a wet spot that gets a large amount of rain; through the month of July you get the most rain around here while February is commonly the driest month. High temperatures at Cranberry River during the months of summer are in the 80's, and the nighttime is a tad colder of course, typically in the 50's. The winter comes with highs in the 40's, and winter nights come with lows in the
10's to Cranberry River. Have a tremendous hiking adventure along the Pocahontas Trail; while you're here why not take a look at Pheasant Hollow. Going for a hike along the Big Run Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this neighborhood.
