Road 3-12 to Cheat River stretch of Daugherty Run in Preston County is 6 miles long and is a class V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The starting point is not too far from Morgantown, as you can see on the road map further down. The campgrounds here at Daugherty Run are pretty good. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. The average West Virginia whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master than those in other states, so better not forget     that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. The wonderful West Virginia scenery and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. This stretch is mid length, you can easily run it on an afternoon. There are no other stretches to paddle along Daugherty Run than the Co. Road 3-12 to Cheat River stretch. Briefly about the general area: From a rain point of view Daugherty Run is a rather typical place; July is when you get the most rain here, and the driest month of the year is February. Daugherty Run lays in   the shadow of the Briery Mountains. Through the days of summer highs here at Daugherty Run get into the 80's, and during the night it cools down to the 60's.
