If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside West Virginia you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. The put-in location is a short drive from Morgantown, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make
you glad you came. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. This is a very short stretch so better bring some good walking shoes. This stretch of Deckers Creek in West Virginia is 1 miles long and it is classified as a class IV-V section by American Whitewater.
This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Masontown to Preston County line section is one of them. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers.
Briefly about the general area: The yearly precipitation here at Deckers Creek is about average; the month with most of the rain is July while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Maiden Spring is always fun to check out. Deckers Creek is not far at all
from Morgantown, and Mayfield Spring is a wonderful place to visit while you're at Deckers Creek. High temperatures at Deckers Creek through the summertime are in the 80's, and the nighttime is fairly colder of course, commonly in the 50's. Daytime highs through the wintertime are in the 30's; after the sun is down all through the wintertime temperatures at Deckers Creek plunge into the 10's.
