The nature scenery of Monongalia County and the cool fresh water have people coming here. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in West Virginia is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that the rivers in this state are less demanding. This stretch has has enough mileage, it's perfect for a one day trip. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. No shortage
of good hotels, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The put-in location is a short drive from Morgantown, as you can see on the road map further down. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Great exercise and just being out on the river
for a while will have you coming back for more. This stretch of Deckers Creek is 5.8 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-IV+(V+) section.
Briefly about the general area: Mayfield Spring is an inspiring spot to go to during your stay, and you're sure to stumble upon some nice folks from Morgantown here. The amount of rain that falls at Deckers Creek is close to the national average; through July this area sees the most rain, and the driest month of the year is February. A trip to Deckers Creek wouldn't be complete
without taking a look at Frank Corbin Spring. For the duration of the warm months highs here at Deckers Creek get into the 80's. During the dark hours of summer temperatures drop down into the 50's. Daytime highs through the wintertime are in the 30's, and nighttime lows in the 10's for Deckers Creek.
