If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so don't forget that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. The wonderful Pocahontas County scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here.
The Confluence with North Fork of Deer Creek to confluence with Greenbrier River section is the only paddling section along Deer Creek. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. On this section you do get some distance, good for a one day paddling trip. The Confluence

Briefly about the general area: Deer Creek is a rather wet place commonly with a lot of precipitation; most of the rain falls through July; February is when it's the driest. Deer Creek is close to Deer Creek Valley which is undeniably worth visiting, and do take a hike on the Little Mountain Trail. For the period of the warm days of summer here at Deer
Creek, high temperatures mostly get into the 70's. Once the sun is down it plunges down to the 50's. High temperatures through the wintertime are normally in the 30's while the cold winter nights at Deer Creek are in the 10's. Deer Creek is right by the Peters Mountain Trail.
