The starting location is a short drive from Oak Hill, as you can see on the road map further down. This section of Dunloup Creek in West Virginia is 6 miles long and it is classified as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. The beautiful scenery of Fayette County and the water flowing gracefully down Dunloup Creek make the trip here worthwhile. This stretch is mid length, you can easily run it on an afternoon. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.
Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. Dunloup Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Harvey to New River at Thurmond section is the only one. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in West Virginia
are often more forgiving than in other states, so better not forget that many runs in this state are very easy. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. the dark hours in the wintertime at Dunloup Creek temperatures drop to the 20's. Bluestone National Scenic River is a very magnificent place to stop at close to Dunloup Creek, and people from Oak Hill love to come here. Dunloup Creek sees pretty high levels of precipitation; through the month of July you get the most rain around here, and the driest of the months is February.
