The scenic beauty of West Virginia and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The campgrounds here at Elk Creek are pretty good. This is a pretty decent length section, you can easily run it on an afternoon. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The CR 20/19 bridge to Stonewood Exit of I-79 section is the only paddling section along Elk Creek. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in West Virginia are easier |
than the national norm, so better not forget that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more.
Briefly about the general area: At Elk Creek through the months
| of summer highs are in the 80's, and the nighttime is rather cooler of course, frequently in the 60's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 40's; after the sun is down during the wintertime temperatures at Elk Creek sink into the 20's. The high level of rainfall makes Elk Creek a quite wet location; during the month of July you get the most rain around here while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
