Slatyfork to Elk Springs section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS II-III 10.4 miles
This section of Elk River is 10.4 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III section. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This is not
the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places. The nature scenery of Pocahontas/Randolph County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water
have people coming here. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby.
