The nature scenery of West Virginia and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. The Slatyfork to Elk Springs stretch of Elk River in West Virginia is 10.4 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-III section of whitewater. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so pack your camping stuff. There

Briefly about the general area: Go for a hike on the Tumbling Rock Trail, and great hiking is available along the North South Trail. Elk River sees pretty high levels of rainfall; all through July this area sees the most rain, and the driest month is February. Throughout the long summer days, highs frequently are in the 80's at Elk River; through summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. Daytime highs during the wintertime are in the 30's, and overnight lows in the 10's for Elk River.
