The beautiful scenery of Webster County and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so don't forget that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. This stretch of Elk River in West Virginia is 17.3 miles long and it is classified as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive
a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good spots. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so pack your
sleeping bag. There are so many stretches to paddle in this river system, the Webster Springs to CR7 stretch is just one of many.
Briefly about the general area: A great place to stop at in the vicinity of Elk River is Barrenshe Hollow. During the warm days of summer at Elk River highs are frequently in the 80's. For the duration of the dark hours of summer temperatures fall down into the 60's.
