  The scenic beauty of Webster County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream attract people from near and far. The Confluence of Big Run to Confluence of Sugar Creek stretch of Elk River - Back Fork in West Virginia is 8.6 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-III+ section of whitewater. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of places for that. There are campgrounds
    quite near the river where you can camp. This stretch has has enough mileage, suitable for an afternoon trip. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in West Virginia are easier than the national norm, so if you're visiting
here do keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less demanding. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well.

Elk River - Back Fork is near Holly River State Park which is a charming place. Hiking along the Tramontane Trail is good fun, and Elk River - Back Fork is not far at all from Bergoo. If you come to this river you will have a good time for sure. Take a hike on the Wilderness Trail. At Elk River - Back Fork through the warmest time of the year highs are in the 70's. All through the dark hours of summer temperatures descend down into the 50's. High temperatures all through the winter are normally in the 30's, and nighttime lows in the 10's for Elk River - Back Fork.
