The Confluence of Crooked Fork to Slaty Fork section of Elk River - Old Field Fork in Pocahontas County is 8.2 miles long and is a class I-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. A bit of exercise
and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's good length for a morning trip. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good places for that around here. There are

Take a hike on the Tea Creek Mountain Trail; Pleasant Valley is a good place to have a look at. Elk River - Old Field Fork is right by the Gauley Mountain Trail, and Helen V Hannah Spring is a tremendous local attraction.
