The beautiful scenery of Preston County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream beats anything. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. The from county road     to Cheat River section of Elsey Run is 3.4 miles long and it is classified as a class V+ section by American Whitewater. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of spots for that. This stretch is short so better bring some good walking shoes. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Briefly about the general area: The Briery Mountains towers over Elsey Run. The yearly rain here at Elsey Run is about average; the month with most of the rain is July; February on the other hand is the driest. At Elsey Run all through the summertime months highs are in the 80's. Summer   nighttime lows plunge down to the 60's. All through the winter highs are in the 30's, and winter nights come with lows in the 10's to Elsey Run.
