The scenic beauty of Raleigh County and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. The starting point is not too far from Oak Hill, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. to River Road on New River above Sandstone falls section of Fall Branch is 1.5 miles long and it is classified as a class II-IV section by American Whitewater. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before
you come because it is a very popular destination. This is the only paddling stretch along Fall Branch. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good rivers.
Briefly about the general area: A great deal of rain falls at Fall Branch; July is when you get the most rain here, and the driest month of the year is February. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 80's to Fall Branch. Summer nighttime lows dip down
to the 50's. During the winter the highs are generally in the 30's, and nighttime lows in the 10's for Fall Branch. You might want to pay a visit to Jerrys Hollow while you're here at Fall Branch.
