Whitewater rafting and kayaking in West Virginia is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. On this section you do get some distance, you can easily run it on an afternoon. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This is not the only paddling
section in this river system, there are others too. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The Confluence with South Fork to confluence with Turkey Fork stretch of Gauley River in Webster County is 9.5 miles long and is a class II-III section of whitewater
according to American Whitewater. The natural beauty of West Virginia and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good spots for that around here.
Briefly about the general area: The Turkey Mountain Trail is a magnificent hiking trail close to Gauley River, and a good spot is Rocky Hollow. The high level of rainfall makes Gauley River a reasonably wet spot; most of the rain falls during July, and the driest of the months is October.
All through the months of summer at Gauley River highs are mostly in the 80's. For the period of the moonlight hours it's commonly in the 50's. Throughout the wintertime this place gets highs in the 30's while Gauley River night low temperatures all through the winter are in the 10's. If the weather is great here at Gauley River, you can go for a hike along the County Line Trail.
