  The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in West Virginia are often more forgiving than in other states, so keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. The natural beauty of Webster County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water have people coming here. The Confluence with South Fork to confluence with Turkey Fork stretch of Gauley River is 9.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III section. This is a pretty decent length section, suitable for an afternoon trip. There are so many sections
    to paddle in this river system, the Confluence with South Fork to confluence with Turkey Fork section is just one of many. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from
the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more.

Briefly about the general area:
On a great day at Gauley River you can take a hike along the Turkey Mountain Trail. Through the months of summer at Gauley River highs are generally in the 80's. All through the dark hours of summer temperatures sink down
 
into the 50's. High temperatures during the wintertime are normally in the 30's while Gauley River nighttime low temperatures during the wintertime are in the 10's.
The high level of precipitation makes Gauley River a pretty wet site; the wettest month of the year is usually July, that's the one that rains the most while October is ordinarily the driest month. While you're here at Gauley River you can take a hike along the County Line Trail, and nearby you hit upon Rocky Hollow which is a great spot to have a look at.
