The Confluence with South Fork to confluence with Turkey Fork stretch of Gauley River in West Virginia is 9.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III section. The average West Virginia whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so don't forget that rivers here are less demanding. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's good length for a morning trip. There aren’t any hotels right nearby
but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. The natural beauty of West Virginia and the
water flowing gracefully down Gauley River attract people from near and far. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of places for that.
Briefly about the general area: Don't leave Gauley River without first going for a hike along the Turkey Mountain Trail; Rocky Hollow is also a splendid place to explore. High temperatures at Gauley River during the summer months are in the 80's. Once the sun is down it falls down to the 50's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 30's with winter lows in the
10's overnight here at Gauley River. There are tremendous locations to look at along the County Line Trail. Gauley River is a relatively wet place commonly with lots of precipitation; the wettest month of the year is typically July, that's the one that rains the most; the driest month is October.
