The Confluence with Turkey Fork to Bolair stretch of Gauley River is 8.3 miles long and it is classified as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. This river system is full of great paddling sections, the Confluence with Turkey Fork to Bolair section is just one of them. This stretch has has enough mileage, suitable for an afternoon trip.
You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. There's camping available near Gauley River. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't
matter, this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come.
Briefly about the general area: During the summertime at Gauley River temperatures are typically in the 80's while night lows are ordinarily in the 60's. Highs through the winter are typically in the 40's while the cold winter nights at Gauley River are in the 20's. There is a pleasant hiking trail next to Gauley River called the Twin Branch Trail; close by you find the Turkey Mountain Trail
which is a tremendous hiking trail. All the water falling down from the sky makes Gauley River a wet site; of all the months in a year July is the one with the most rain while February is frequently the driest month.
