Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of
places for that. There's camping available near Gauley River. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. The beautiful scenery of Webster County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream will make you feel great. Not
too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, you can easily run it on an afternoon.
Briefly about the general area: Gauley River is a reasonably wet place regularly with lots of rain; during the month of July you get the most rain around here while February is ordinarily the driest month. Hiking along the Twin Branch Trail is great fun, and you can have a good hiking adventure along the Turkey
Mountain Trail. At Gauley River during the summertime months highs are in the 80's. During the dark hours of summer temperatures descend down into the 60's. For the period of the wintertime this place gets highs in the 40's, and night lows through the winter for Gauley River tend to be in the 20's.
