If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. The beautiful scenery of West Virginia and the cool fresh water have people coming here. On this section you do get some distance, you can easily run it on an afternoon. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want
to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. A bit of exercise and spending some

Briefly about the general area: For the duration of the warm months, highs ordinarily are in the 80's at Gauley River. For the duration of the moonlight hours it's regularly in the 60's. For the duration of the winter highs are ordinarily in the 40's with temperatures at Gauley River dipping down into the 20's throughout winter
nights. There's delightful hiking along the Twin Branch Trail, and hiking is a popular thing to do around Gauley River; Turkey Mountain Trail is a great local trail. The high level of precipitation makes Gauley River a relatively wet place; July is the wettest month with most rain; February is when it's the driest.
