  The wonderful Webster County scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. This stretch of Gauley River in Webster County is 10.5 miles long and it is classified as a class I-II(III) section by American Whitewater. This river system is full of great paddling sections, the Donaldson to Camden-on-Gauley section is just one of them. The rivers for whitewater rafting and
    kayaking here in West Virginia are often easier than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. There's camping available near Gauley River. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of
good places for that around here. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so pack your camp stove.

Briefly about the general area:
Summer at Gauley River arrives with high temperatures in the 80's with nighttime lows in the 60's. Through the winter this place gets highs in the 40's; winter nights come with lows in the 20's to Gauley River. Gauley River sees pretty high levels of rain; of all the months in a year July is the one with the most rain, and the driest of the months is January.
Take a hike on the Harris Siding Trail, and you can have a pleasant hiking adventure along the Adkin Rockhouse Trail.
