This stretch of Gauley River is 10.5 miles long and it is classified as a class I-II(III) section by American Whitewater. The wonderful West Virginia scenery and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in West Virginia tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good places for that around here. This is not the only
paddling stretch in this river system, there are others too. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Great exercise and spending some quality time
in nature are great reasons to come. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so why not pack your camping stuff too.
Briefly about the general area: Don't leave Gauley River without first going for a hike along the Harris Siding Trail, and good hiking is available along the Adkin Rockhouse Trail. Summertime highs at Gauley River typically tend to be in the 80's while nighttime lows are typically in the 60's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 40's; night lows all through the winter for Gauley River tend to be in the 20's.
