This stretch of Gauley River is 9.8 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-II section. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in West Virginia is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many runs in this state are very easy. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. This stretch is mid length, it's perfect for a one day trip. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. There are so many sections to paddle in this
river system, the Camden-0n-Gauley to Curtin Bridge section is just one of many. The natural beauty of Webster/Nicholas County and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area
with plenty of spots for that. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.
Briefly about the general area: Through the months of summer at Gauley River highs are regularly in the 80's, and all through the night it cools down to the 60's. The winter brings highs down to the 40's, and after the sun is down through the wintertime temperatures at Gauley River drop into the 20's. Going for a hike along the Harris Siding Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty
of this vicinity, and if the weather is good, you can go for a hike along the Perry Ridge Trail. Gauley River is a wet location that gets a large amount of rainfall; the month of July is the wettest with most of the rain, and January is the month with the least moisture.
