The put-in location is a short drive from Oak Hill, as you can see on the road map further down. The Mason Branch to Bucklick Branch section of Gauley River is 5.5 miles long and has been rated as a class III+(IV) section by American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so better not forget that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. Branch stretch is just one of them. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The nature scenery of Nicholas/Fayette County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream attract
people from near and far. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. This stretch has has enough mileage, suitable for an afternoon trip. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good spots.

temperatures during the winter are in the 20's. This river is so great. A journey to Koontz Flume Rapids will fill your spirit with delightful feelings, and Koontz Bend is an out of the ordinary location to take a look at while at Gauley River. Gauley River gets a large amount
of water; the month with most of the rain is July, and February on the other hand is the driest. Going for a hike on the Way Back Trail is always a magnificent adventure, and there are pleasant spots to discover along the Carnifex Trail.
