West Virginia whitewater - Greenbrier River, Greenbrier Monroe County
Greenbrier Monroe
county,
Fort Spring to Alderson section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS I-II 6.1 miles
There is a brand new (and long needed!)river access boat and canoe slide with steps at Fort Spring that goes down to a little beach--makes it easy to get to the river. Although you have listed this stretch of the river as Class I-II, I believe others have noted that there is some Class III whitewater on the fairly challenging Rattlesnake Rapids which are about halfway(?) down the run. Many have overturned their canoes on these rapids. This is a very beautiful run on the gorgeous Greenbrier. Says vivian
The wonderful Greenbrier Monroe County
scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Greenbrier River make the trip here worthwhile. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master in this state than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the rivers here
are not very demanding. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The Fort Spring to Alderson stretch of Greenbrier River is 6.1 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-II section of whitewater. There's camping available near Greenbrier River. There are no other stretches to paddle along Greenbrier River than the Fort Spring to Alderson stretch.
