West Virginia whitewater - Greenbrier River, Greenbrier Monroe County
Greenbrier Monroe
county,
Fort Spring to Alderson section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS I-II 6.1 miles
The Greenbrier can pretty much be paddled (very easily) in a canoe/kayak along it's entire length. The sections from Alderson to The New River have some very hairy rapids. Class III+. Says E. Meadows
There is a brand new (and long needed!)river access boat and canoe slide with steps at Fort Spring that goes down to a little beach--makes it easy to get to the river. Although you have listed this stretch of the river as Class I-II, I believe others have noted that there is some Class III whitewater on the fairly challenging Rattlesnake Rapids
which are about halfway(?) down the run. Many have overturned their canoes on these rapids. This is a very beautiful run on the gorgeous Greenbrier. Says vivian
