The Simon to R D Bailey Lake backwaters stretch of Guyandotte River in West Virginia is 8 miles long and is a class I-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. Getting some good exercise and     a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Guyandotte River doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Simon to R D Bailey Lake backwaters section is the only one. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in West Virginia tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. Briefly about the general area: Summer brings highs in the 80's to Guyandotte River. Summer night lows sink down to the 60's. Throughout the winter highs are in the 40's; overnight lows during the winter for Guyandotte River tend to be in the 20's. All the water falling down from the sky makes Guyandotte River a wet location; of all the months in a year July is the one with the most rain, and October is when it's the driest.
