This stretch of Horseshoe Run in Tucker County is 9 miles long and it is classified as a class I-III section by American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. The put-in location is a short drive from Morgantown, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. of Tucker County and the water flowing gracefully down Horseshoe Run beats anything. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. There are campgrounds quite near the river where
you can camp. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. This is a pretty decent length section, good for a one day paddling trip.
Briefly about the general area: At Horseshoe Run during the warm days of summer highs are in the 80's. For the duration of the dark hours of summer temperatures sink down into the 50's. All through the wintertime this place gets highs in the 30's while the cold winter nights at Horseshoe Run are in the 10's. Horseshoe Run is a wet place that gets a
large amount of precipitation; the wettest month of the year is commonly July, that's the one that rains the most, and the driest of the months is February. Near Horseshoe Run you discover the Canyon Rim Trail which is a brilliant hiking trail.
