Shafer to Bridge above St. George section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS I-III 9 miles
The nature scenery of West Virginia and the water flowing gracefully down Horseshoe Run will make you feel great. The Shafer to Bridge above St. George section of Horseshoe Run in West Virginia is 9 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-III section. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Morgantown, as you can see on the road map further down. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. On this section
you do get some distance, it's good length for a morning trip. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. For all you camping people there are
campgrounds nearby. Horseshoe Run doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Shafer to Bridge above St. George section is the only one. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of rivers for that.
