The to New River stretch of Keeney's Creek is 0.75 miles long and it is classified as a class V+ section by American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in West Virginia is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. The scenic beauty of Fayette County and the water flowing gracefully down Keeney's Creek attract people from near and far. Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the to New River stretch is the only one. The campgrounds here at Keeney's Creek are pretty good. There are nice comfortable hotels here, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. A good workout and a chance to spend
some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good places. This is a very short section so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times.
Briefly about the general area: Keeneys Rapids is an inspiring place to stop at while here, and don't leave Keeney's Creek without first paying a visit to Dudleys Dip Rapids. For the duration of the days of summer highs here at Keeney's Creek reach the
80's. When the night sets in temperatures descend down into the 60's. During the winter highs are in the 40's while the cold winter nights at Keeney's Creek are in the 20's. The high level of rainfall makes Keeney's Creek a rather wet place; throughout the month of July you get the most rain around here, and the driest of the months is February.
