The scenic beauty of Upshur County and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Clarksburg, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, you can easily run it on an afternoon. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Holly Grove to Arlington stretch is one of them. The campgrounds here at Little Kanawha River are pretty good. This section of Little
Kanawha River in West Virginia is 6.7 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-III section of whitewater. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling spots. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll
have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near.
Briefly about the general area: Summertime highs at Little Kanawha River regularly tend to be in the 80's. Summer nighttime lows plunge down to the 60's. The winter comes with highs in the 30's, and night lows at Little Kanawha River through the wintertime regularly dip into the 10's. Bruffey Spring is a beautiful location to pop by while
you're at Little Kanawha River. Near Little Kanawha River you locate Sprigg Hollow which is a great place to visit, and if you want to stop by some out of the ordinary stuff, stop by Devils Darning Needle. Little Kanawha River is a wet site that gets a good deal of precipitation; the wettest month of the year is ordinarily July, that's the one that rains the most, and February is when it's the driest.
