West Virginia whitewater - Little River, Pocahontas County Pocahontas county, FS 17 to Burner section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS I-II     3 miles   This stretch of Little River in West Virginia is 3 miles long and it is classified as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. The average West Virginia whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so better not forget that many runs in this state are very easy. The scenic beauty of Pocahontas County and the beautiful     way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Little River doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the FS 17 to Burner stretch is the only one. There are many good hotels to choose from, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This is a pretty short section so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. Briefly about the general area: At Little River throughout the days of summer highs are in the 80's, and during the night it cools down to the 50's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 30's with temperatures at Little River dipping down into the 10's during winter nights. Little River is a wet spot that gets a lot of precipitation; July is the month that gets the most rain while February is the month with the least amount of   precipitation. Going for a hike along the Burner Mountain Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this neighborhood. If the weather is perfect here at Little River, you can go for a hike along the East Fork Trail; a wonderful spot to stop at is Reservoir Hollow.
