The put-in is not too far from Winchester, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in West Virginia is often easier than elsewhere, so keep in mind that many runs in this state are very easy. The beautiful scenery of Hardy County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. This stretch is mid length, good for a one day paddling trip. You might have to settle for
a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The West Virginia 55/259 to West Virginia 259 stretch of Lost River is 6 miles long and is a class II-III(IV) section of whitewater according
to American Whitewater. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling places. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here.
Briefly about the general area: Going for a hike on the Halfmoon Lookout Trail is always a splendid adventure, and a short spree to Cold Spring is always worthwhile. The surroundings of this river have so much to offer. Go
for a hike on the Squirrel Gap Trail; a spree to Lost River wouldn't be complete without taking a look at Landecker Farm Spring. From a precipitation point of view Lost River is a rather common location; throughout the month of July you get the most rain around here, and the driest
month is February. For the period of the days of summer at Lost River highs are regularly in the 80's, and during the night it cools down to the 60's. Throughout the wintertime highs are commonly in the 30's, and overnight lows in the 10's for Lost River.
