The Route 19 to confluence with Gauley River section of Meadow River in Fayette/ Nicholas County is 5 miles long and is a class IV-V+ section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature will make you glad you came. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, but     you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so keep in mind that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This stretch is mid length, good for a one day paddling trip. The natural beauty of Fayette/ Nicholas County and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. Briefly about the general area: The beauty of mother nature reveals herself at Lost Paddle Rapids. A journey to Pillow Rock Rapids will fill your spirit with perfect feelings; don't leave Meadow River without first going for a hike along the Carnifex   Trail. All through the months of summer highs here at Meadow River reach the 80's. Once the sun is down it drops down to the 60's. For the period of the winter the highs are ordinarily in the 40's while Meadow River overnight low temperatures during the wintertime are in the 20's. Meadow River gets lots of water; the month of July is the wettest with most of the rain while February is generally the driest month.
