West Virginia whitewater - Meadow River, Fayette/ Nicholas County Fayette/ Nicholas county, Route 19 to confluence with Gauley River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS IV-V+     5 miles   This stretch of Meadow River is 5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class IV-V+ section. The natural beauty of Fayette/ Nicholas County and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This stretch has has enough mileage, suitable for an afternoon trip. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come.     There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good places. There's camping available near Meadow River. The starting point is not too far from Oak Hill, as you can see on the road map further down. Briefly about the general area: Summertime highs at Meadow River ordinarily tend to be in the 80's, and through summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. All through the winter highs are in the 40's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at Meadow River. Why not take a refreshing hike along the Carnifex Trail; Lost Paddle Rapids is a delightful local attraction. Pillow Rock Rapids is a pretty site to stop by while you're at Meadow River.
