West Virginia whitewater - Meadow River, Fayette/ Nicholas County Fayette/ Nicholas county, Route 19 to confluence with Gauley River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS IV-V+     5 miles   The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Oak Hill, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. The Route 19 to confluence with Gauley River stretch of Meadow River is 5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class IV-V+ section. This stretch has has enough mileage, it's perfect for a one day trip. There     aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the Route 19 to confluence with Gauley River section is just one of many. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. Briefly about the general area: It's always pleasant to visit Pillow Rock Rapids; hiking is a popular thing to do around Meadow River; Carnifex Trail is a delightful local trail. A spree to Lost Paddle Rapids will fill your spirit with great feelings. The   high level of rainfall makes Meadow River a pretty wet spot; the month of July is the wettest with most of the rain, and February on the other hand is the driest. During the long summer days at Meadow River highs are mostly in the 80's while nighttime lows are typically in the 60's. All through the winter highs are in the 40's; after the sun is down throughout the winter temperatures at Meadow River sink into the 20's.
