Whitewater rafting and kayaking in West Virginia is often easier than elsewhere, so better not forget that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. The starting point is not too far from Beckley, as you can see on the road map further down. The CR 4 bridge to Bluestone River stretch is the only paddling stretch along Mountain Creek. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. The wonderful Mercer County scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream beats anything. This
stretch is short so better bring some good walking shoes. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling rivers. This stretch of Mountain Creek in West Virginia is 2.1 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-IV section
of whitewater. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
Briefly about the general area: Mountain Creek is a rather wet place commonly with a lot of precipitation; the wettest month of the year is regularly July, that's the one that rains the most, and February is when it's the driest. At Mountain Creek throughout the warm days of summer highs are in the 80's. Summer night lows dip down to the 50's. During the winter highs are in the 30's while the cold winter nights at Mountain Creek are in the 10's.
