The starting location is a short drive from Blacksburg-Christiansburg-Radford, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master in this state than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This river system
is full of great paddling stretches, the State line to Bull Falls Campground stretch is just one of them. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. This section of New River is 14.8 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater
as a class I-II+(III) section. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so go ahead and pack your camping stuff. The beautiful scenery of West Virginia and the playfulness of the water beats anything. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good places for that around here.
Briefly about the general area: Summertime highs at New River typically tend to be in the 80's with nighttime lows in the 50's. Through the winter the
highs are ordinarily in the 40's, and overnight lows in the 20's for New River. The annual precipitation here at New River is about average; the month with most of the rain is July, and January on the other hand is the driest. Wylie Falls is an inspiring place to explore during your stay.
