Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so better not forget that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. The starting point is not too far from Blacksburg-Christiansburg-Radford, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. No matter if     you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of places for that. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. This is not the only paddling stretch in this river system, there are others too. The beautiful scenery of West Virginia and the cool fresh water have people coming here. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people. Briefly about the general area: At New River through the days of summer highs are in the 80's. Summer nighttime lows fall down to the 50's. The winter comes with highs in the 40's; during the dark hours in the winter at New River temperatures drop to the 20's. New River gets a typical amount of rain; all through the month of July you get the most rain around here while January is usually the driest month.
