The natural beauty of Mercer/ Monroe/ Summers/Giles County and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This section of New River in West Virginia is 14.8 miles long and it is classified as a class I-II+(III) section by American Whitewater. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people.     You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. There are some good hotels near the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. Briefly about the general area: An average amount of precipitation falls at New River; the month of July is the wettest with most of the rain, and the driest month is January. Summertime brings highs in the 80's to New River. When the night sets in temperatures descend down into the   50's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 40's, and winter nights come with lows in the 20's to New River. Wylie Falls is a fine local attraction.
