The nature scenery of West Virginia and the playfulness of the water beats anything. The average West Virginia whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. If you're coming from Oak Hill it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. A good workout
and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so pack your sleeping bag. There's camping available near New River. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number
of paddling places. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.
Briefly about the general area: For the period of the warmest time of the year highs here at New River reach the 80's. Throughout the moonlight hours it's mostly in the 50's. All through the winter the highs are ordinarily in the 30's while the cold winter nights at New River are in the 10's. New River gets a large amount of water; most of the rain falls through July while February is ordinarily the driest month.
