The wonderful Summers/ Fayette County scenery and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in West Virginia are easier than the national norm, so keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. The starting point is not too far from Oak Hill, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. I-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling spots. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming
from far and near. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
Briefly about the general area: High temperatures at New River during the months of summer are in the 80's, and the night is fairly cooler of course, mostly in the 50's. Daytime highs during the wintertime are in the 30's while New River overnight low temperatures during the wintertime are in the 10's. New River regularly gets lots of precipitation; the wettest month of the year is frequently July, that's the one that rains the most, and February meanwhile is the driest month.
