The Thurmond to Cunard stretch of New River in unknown County is 7 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-III section. On this section you do get some distance, you can easily run it on an afternoon. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The beautiful scenery of unknown County and the water flowing gracefully     down New River will make you feel great. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. If you're coming from Oak Hill it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. No shortage of good hotels, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more.
