The natural beauty of West Virginia and the water flowing gracefully down New River are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. The starting point is not too far from Oak Hill, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. There are so many sections     to paddle in this river system, the Cunard to Fayette Station section is just one of many. The average West Virginia whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master than those in other states, so better not forget that the rivers in this state are less demanding. No shortage of good hotels, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This stretch is mid length, it's perfect for a one day trip. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 40's with temperatures at New River dipping down into the 20's during winter nights. Toney Hollow is a splendid spot to go to close to New River, and New River is not far at all from Oak Hill.
