The Cunard to Fayette Station stretch of New River is 6.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-IV+(V) section of whitewater. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of spots for that. The starting location is a short drive from Oak Hill, as you can see on the road map further     down. This stretch has has enough mileage, suitable for an afternoon trip. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in West Virginia is often easier than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. There are nice comfortable hotels here, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the Cunard to Fayette Station section is just one of many. Briefly about the general area: A tour to Toney Hollow is always fun, and this is a popular spot for folks from Oak Hill. Summer brings highs in the 80's to New River with overnight lows in the 60's. For the duration of the winter this place gets highs in the 40's, and overnight lows at   New River during the wintertime usually dip into the 20's. New River is a wet place that gets much precipitation; July is the wettest month with most rain, and February meanwhile is the driest month.
