The wonderful West Virginia scenery and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The starting point is not too far from Cumberland, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. This stretch of New Creek is 9 miles long and is a class I-II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. New Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Intersection of US220 and West Virginia 93 to Keyser section is the only one. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby.
If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are less demanding. This is a pretty decent length section, good for a one day paddling trip. Some people prefer
whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling spots. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come.
Briefly about the general area: At New Creek during the summer highs are in the 80's, and all through summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 30's while the cold winter nights at New Creek are in the 10's. New Creek gets a common amount of yearly rainfall; of all the months in a year July is the one with the most rain, and February is the month with the least moisture.
