This section of Otter Creek is 9 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class IV-V(V+) section. The scenic beauty of West Virginia and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream have people coming here. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in West Virginia is often easier than elsewhere, so better not forget that many runs in this state are very easy. There's camping available near Otter Creek. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the to Big Spring Gap section is one of them. A bit of exercise and
a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good rivers for that around here. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short
distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
Briefly about the general area: Otter Creek is a wet site that gets much rain; July is when you get the most rain here, and February is when it's the driest. Summertime brings highs in the 80's to Otter Creek, and through the night it cools down to the 50's. During the winter the highs are typically in the 30's, and nighttime lows in the 10's for Otter Creek. The Green Mountain Trail is a pleasant hiking trail next to Otter Creek; nearby you come across good spots like Devils Gulch. If the weather is good here at Otter Creek, you can go for a hike along the Otter Creek Trail.
